What Is A Domain? A domain is the deadicated computer space on a remote computer, owned by a webhosting company. This webhosting company provides a internet location or address (used for EVERY web site). They will issue you a numeric code, known as a "Name Server." You could then it type into any internet browser, to reach that specific location on the webhosting companys computer, through the internet.

Number? I thought you needed a name? Yes. A name or "Domain Name" is required for the internet. The numeric code (as stated above) is to be used as a temporry internet location or address, until your domain name becomes available.

Who Needs To Register A Domain Name? Anyone who wants to have a web site with there own business, organization or personial name as an internet address, must register a domain name.

Do I Need To Register? No. You can obtain a web space without an officalily registered domain name. You can go to your "IP" (AOL, MSN, NetZero etc.) or a free web hosting company (Angelfire, Yahoo, ect.). Let's say your business name is "Your Business Name." You then would register your name directly with your "IP" or free web hosting company (see below) and then you would be ready to upload to your site! Is this the name that you want to give to your friends, family or business associates? Is this what you want to put on your stationery or business cards? It wouldn't even fit on a business card. No one will remember a long internet address. It's best to have an address that is concise and to the point. Also, most (if not all) free sites are loaded with advertising or pop-up windows. Is This Going To Be Free? Yes And No. Yes there are some companies that will give you a free domain name. All you may need to do, is choose the name you want to use. They will then register your name, and loan it to you, for you to use. That's right, they now own your new domain name! Usualy you will need to have them host your web site or do some other kind of busness with them. If you no longer want any of their services, but want your domain name, some of these companies will sell it to you, for hundreds or even thousands of dollars! The best way is to pay the registry fees your own domain name, under your own name.

What Are Registry Fees? Every registered .com, .org, .net, .info, .biz and .us domain, are subject to annual registry fees. Just like a automobile registration, this fee allows you to stay on the internet's super highway.

How Much Will It Cost? Prices can vary. ASU2000.net charges a low amount of $16.95 (U.S. funds) per domain name per year or $29.95 (U.S. funds) per domain for the first 2 years (a savings of almost $5.00). You need to renew your registration before the expiration date. If you do not pay the renewal fees by the expiration date, your domain name will be subject to deactivation / deletion and may be purchased by someone else.

How Should I Choose A Name? Now let's say your business name is "The Hot Dog King." You might think that the most practical way to register it as your domain name would be as, "http://www. The Hot Dog King .com", but you can't use spaces in a domain name. It is also not recomended to use CAPITAL letters when registering a domain name. You might then want to register your domain name as, "http://www.the_hot_dog_king.com" or "http://www.the-hot-dog-king.com",but not many people will know to use an underscore or dash between each word. It would be best for you to register your domain name as, "http://www.thehotdogking.com." Rember, it's always best to have a domain name that is concise and to the point.

Is My Name Choice Available? You need to make sure the name you want is available. Use the search engine above, to check. Sometimes, the name you want will not be available as a .com domain. Someone may have already beat you to it. You should then try to find it as a .net, .org, .biz or .us address. If you still have no luck, try diffrent variations until you come up with a domain name you like. Just remember to try to and keep the domain name you choose some what related to you, your company, your product, etc. Also, try to keep it as simple as possiable.

What If I Change My Mind? Once you have registered your chosen domain name,
